Chapter SHINE, did you know…

that parents are asked not to address their children’s behavior during chapter meeting unless requested by the chapter sponsor? This allows student leaders to learn how to deal with issues and provides an opportunity for students to learn respect for authority.

When behavior challenge arises, student leaders follow a 3- step process:

#1  Remind the student of the specific respect (SOAP) being violated and remind of the correct behavior.

#2  At the second incident, students are reminded again of the respect being violated and asked to sit out of the activity/discussion. They remain in the room to observe.

#3  If the student is still not in compliance, they will be required to remain with the chapter sponsor for the rest of the meeting. Parents will be informed of the behavior and actions taken. To learn more about ICC's standards and practices, check out the handbook.

December Announcements

Our next all-chapter meeting is on Jan 8th.

YCC:  Keep reading the books you have chosen for interp aloud.  Project, inflect and articulate your words.

YSG:  BEFORE you memorize speeches you have prepared, you must get your scripts reviewed and approved by either Mrs. Hendrix or Mrs. Silverio.  E-mailing the scripts to them is fine.

Chapter SHINE did you know…

that the mission of the Institute for Cultural Communicators is to equip Christians to shape the future through authentic leadership and cultural communication?  For short, we like to say "mentoring Christians to lead."

That is one of the reasons parents are required to attend all chapter meetings so they are equipped to guide and encourage their students at home.  Check out other benefits here.

Dec 12 is our last meeting before our Christmas break. Invite family and friends from 5:30 – 6:30 as we share the presentations we’ve been working on and enjoy snacks. (Each family should plan to bring a snack to share – healthy, sweet or savory.)

Would anyone like to volunteer to organize and set up the snack table?

 Parent Volunteer Opportunities

There are still opportunities available to support our chapter. Look over the list under Just for Parents > Parent Volunteers. Some are ongoing while others are just periodic. Take a look and prayerfully consider how the Lord has equipped you and may be calling you to serve. Please contact Yvonne or Ruthie if you would like to volunteer or want more information.

Christmas Stroll Platform

Our chapter will be strolling the streets Dec 21 from 2-3pm in Old Colorado City, presenting a choral reading with popcorn quotes and Christmas memories. See more detail in Platforms > Platform Opportunities. Contact Yvonne Hagood to sign up.

4.  Don’t forget to look for opportunities in the community to share your presentations.

Young Speakers Guild Homework (YSG) ages 11-18yrs

1. Work on the YSG goals you set during chapter.

Next All-Chapter Meeting November 21

You can find our chapter schedule under “General Information”.

Parent Volunteer Opportunities

I have compiled a list of needs for our chapter and described them in a document under Just for Parents > Parent Volunteers. Some of them have a more extensive description linked to their title. Please look them over and prayerfully consider how the Lord has equipped you and may be calling you to serve. Some positions are ongoing and others are only once or twice per year. Please contact the sponsor if you would like to volunteer or want more information.

Tournament Practice

YSG students will have the opportunity to practice any of their YSG presentations and limited prep at a Tournament Practice December 14, 8:00 am – 2:00 pm at Front Range Alliance Church. Cost is $15 each. Younger students are welcome to participate (free) as BPS timers while parents evaluate during the rounds. Dads are welcome.  Bring a lunch and snack to share. We’ll have a great time practicing and getting to know parents and students from other chapters.

 Christmas Party/Showcase

Dec 12 is our last meeting before our Christmas break. Invite family and friends from 5:30 – 6:00 as we share the presentations we’ve been working on and enjoy snacks. (Each family should plan to bring a snack to share.)

 Christmas Stroll Platform

Our chapter will be strolling the streets Dec 21 from 2-3pm in Old Colorado City, presenting a choral reading with popcorn quotes and Christmas memories. See more detail in Platforms > Platform Opportunities. Contact Yvonne Hagood to sign up by Tuesday, November 19.

Beginning Public Speaking Homework (BPS) ages 6-10yrs

1.  Practice reading or reciting your presentation using projection. Practice how you would need to project in a small room, in a large room, or outside. Remember, you don’t want to scream to be louder. That will hurt your audiences’ ears. Project using your diaphragm (tummy muscles).

2.  Memorize Phil 2:3-4 using the sign language and hand gestures Kimberly taught during chapter.

3.  Review the most important public speaking skills on page 13. Answers can be found in “Resources” under “BPS Workbook Answers.”

4.  Don’t forget to look for opportunities in the community to share your presentations.

Young Speakers Guild Homework (YSG) ages 11-18yrs

1. Work on the YSG goals you set during chapter.

2.  Review pages 1-2 of God’s Grand Story and read through the corresponding scriptures listed in the back of the book.

Next All-Chapter Meeting October 10

You can find our chapter schedule under “General Information”.

First Chapter Dinner

October 10 will be our first Chapter Dinner immediately following our chapter meeting at 6:30. Each family is to bring their own table service and a main dish to share. In addition, those with last names ending in A – Ma are to bring a side dish or salad. Me – Z are to bring a dessert. Drinks will be provided.

Record those platforms!

If your students have used their public speaking skills since May 16, 2014, please record them on our Platform Reporting Form. There are many opportunities besides presentations prepared in chapter. Reciting Bible verses or leading Bible studies, speaking or leading at Scout Groups, Heritage Girls, 4-H, etc.,  greeting people for special events and reading aloud to others are all ways you are using public speaking skills. Be sure to record these. You can find more information on the Platform Reporting Form.

Registration Open for Ignite Winter Advance

Held in the beautiful hills of Tennessee on the lake at Cedine Camp, January 16-20, is the ICC national training event that kicks off the tournament season. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet ICC families from around the country and experience the camaraderie and unity of like-minded Christians in a more relaxed atmosphere. This event is only for students 11+yrs.

Super Early Bird deadline is October 30. Early Bird Deadline is November 30.

You can find more complete information on the ICC website: ICCinc.org

Chapter SHINE is a team…

To keep the workload manageable and allow our chapter to run more effectively, there are opportunities for parents to assist with chapter responsibilities. Think of how the Lord has gifted you and consider the following roles:

- Chapter Dinners Coordinator

- Christmas Showcase and Year End Hospitality

- Treasurer and Registration (Thank you Ruthie Marquez!)

- Chapter Recording

- BPS Oversight

- YSG Presentation Mentor

I am working on a more comprehensive description of each role and will be talking more in depth about them as time goes on.

Beginning Public Speaking Homework (BPS) ages 6-10yrs

1.  Memorize Phil 2:3-4 using the sign language and hand gestures Kimberly taught during chapter. You can find a video under “Look and See” to help.

2.  Review the 3 second rule on page 10 in the BPS book. Answers can be found in “Resources” under “BPS Workbook Answers.”

3.  Be thinking about a Thanksgiving or Christmas poem or funny story that will be our first presentation.

Young Speakers Guild Homework (YSG) ages 11-18yrs

1. Work on the YSG goals you set during chapter.

2.  Review pages 1-2 of God’s Grand Story and read through the corresponding scriptures listed in the back of the book.

SUMMER SCHEDULE:
We have 3 picnics planned. We'll meet for a BYO lunch and activities. Students will also be able to give presentations and get feedback for speeches they are working on. These are the dates. I know we're all spread out so if you have suggestions for locations, please let me know.
June 28, Friday - 11:00am - 1:00pm  Cottonwood Park (west of Dublin and Rangewood - just south of the church)
July 23, Tuesday - 11:00am - 1:00pm
Aug 14, Wednesday - 11:00am - 1:00pm

FALL SCHEDULE:
Tentatively, we'll have a Parent Information Meeting for students, parents and anyone interested in ICC or joining our chapter. I will let you know if this changes.
August 29, 6:00 - 7:30pm at Springs Community Church (7290 Lexington Drive, 80920)

The Communicators for Christ Conference is the only area event this year - a hybrid between the spring Flood the Five Conference and the former fall CFC. This is a training-packed event for coaches (AKA parents) and students. Please save the date and plan to attend. It will be in the Denver area but we are still looking for a facility. (Please be praying the Lord will lead us to an available facility willing to partner with us.) Host housing will be available to reduce travel costs.
Here is the new schedule:
Friday, Sept 13, 9am - 3pm YSG chapter members (11+yrs)  ($175 EB/$215 STD) and coaches ($175 EB/$215 STD)
Friday, Sept 13, 4pm - 9pm YSG, BPS (6-10yrs), parents, guests and educators - that means everyone! (11+yrs $135 EB/$165 STD) (BPS one day option $35 - no EB)
Saturday, Sept 14, 9am - 3pm EVERYONE. (BPS 2-day option $70 EB/$85 STD)
NOTE:
Coach tuition of $175 EB/$215 STD is waived if they are accompanied by a student. CEU credits are available to educators for this training.
Apprentices, Student Instructors, Student Leaders, Sponsors and Asst Sponsors have unique tuition based on chapter discounts and training.
Scholarships and fundraising opportunities are available.
This event is going to provide training which will strengthen our members more than any area event we've been able to provide before. There is so much your students will experience here that is unavailable during a chapter meeting. You will be amazed at the change in them when they come home. You will be amazed at your own growth when you attend the coaches sessions. Make it a priority for your family. I can't recommend this training highly enough. This is training they will be able to use for the rest of their lives - wherever the Lord may lead them.

Because of the CFC conference, our first chapter meeting will be September 19, 4:30-6:30pm
