Celebration Jar: Don’t forget to initial one square on the Practice Record for each day students work on public speaking skills. This includes any preparation for their presentations – including researching, writing, editing, memorizing or keeping up with current events. Bring those records to chapter next week and receive a marble for each square to put into our Celebration Jar. Being a good public speaker takes hard work and we want to recognize that hard work by celebrating when our jar gets full of marbles.

Chapter Dinner: Mark you calendars and get those recipes out for our next Chapter Dinner on November 15. We will be viewing more presentations and wrapping and filling our boxes for Operation Christmas Child. Contact Tracee Lancaster if you have questions.

King Soopers Gift Card Fundraiser: Members can check out $25 Gift Cards from Ruthie Marquez to purchase or sell to earn money for upcoming ICC events. Checks can be made out to Chapter SHINE and turned into Ruthie. Find more information under Fundraisers.

Operation Christmas Child: Only two more weeks before we box up all those goodies for little ones around the world who don’t know Jesus. Let’s finish strong and see how many boxes we can fill. Review the list at Operation Christmas Child – and don’t forget to bring a shoebox.

Beginning Public Speaking Homework (BPS) ages 6-10yrs

1.  Final presentations for the informative speech with visual aids will be Nov. 15 so use those memorization tips we learned today and get them ready. Parents, please preview the presentations and give your students feedback before next chapter meeting.

2.   Read Dear Speaker on page 24.

Young Speakers Guild Homework (YSG) ages 11-18yrs

1.   Use the colored index card to write what you want to learn from YSG. These are to be kept in the front of their notebooks.

2.   Finish up pages 10-12 (new) or 9-10 (old)

3.   Write the speech outlined on page 13. The overview is on page 2. We will be working on presenting them in small group beginning next week to get feedback they will use to improve their presentations before presenting them to the larger group. Parents are required to view these presentations at home and give feedback before they are seen in chapter.

Continue to:

1. look for opportunities to use your introduction skills and record them on page 11. (Handout for those with old YSG.)

Join us for a Round Robin where students 11+yrs can practice YSG presentations in a very relaxed atmosphere. This is a great opportunity to get feedback and get to know members from other chapters – and their parents. There will be a potluck lunch to "round out" our time together. Mrs. Hagood will have extra seats if anyone is interested in going. Please let her know ASAP.
