Beginning Public Speaking Homework (BPS) ages 6-10yrs

1.  Continue working on the Informative presentation with visual aids. (BPS pg 23.) Talk with students about why (Purpose) they chose their specific topic. Age specific instructions are found in Resources under BPS Homework. Please note there is a BPS and BPS+ file. The younger group (Deanna’s group) is BPS and the older group (Kimberly’s group) is BPS+.

BPS students who are presenting Show and Tell can choose a different subject each week (or every two weeks) if it would be more interesting. They could choose a person one week, an animal or pet the next and a favorite toy or reminder of a special place the next week. Be creative.

BPS+ students should have their topics and visual aids chosen and listed interesting details. This week they should try to group those interesting details. This will make it easier to memorize and easier for their audience to follow.

Young Speakers Guild Homework (YSG) ages 11-18yrs

1. Work on introductions, 3 sec rule, and plan the first speech. Jot down main ideas and group them - chronologically, by similarities, etc.

NEW YSG pg 10-13.

OLD YSG pg 9-10, look for ideas of what to include in the presentation on pg 13, complete hand out for Introductions

Don’t forget to make changes to the Tracking Log and give pages to Mrs. Hagood to be checked off.

2.  Find a random person, look past their appearance and imagine their life. Tell about it next week. max 2 min. Bring a picture if you can.

3.  For students who have already completed these pages, be prepared tell about a random person as above and continue working on preparing your first presentation.

4.  Join us for a Round Robin where students 11+yrs can practice YSG presentations in a very relaxed atmosphere. This is a great opportunity to get feedback and get to know members from other chapters – and their parents. There will be a potluck lunch to "round out" our time together. Mrs. Hagood will have extra seats if anyone is interested in going. Please let her know ASAP.
