Great First Meeting!! It was fun watching the students get to know each other as they practiced their Impromptu Introductions - their first speech! It will be amazing to see how much they will learn over the next 8 months.

Thank you to being available during the meeting and being an adult presence in small groups. I hope you feel equipped to help your students this week with their homework as you observed what they were learning.

I would encourage you to check out the rest of the website and learn more about ICC and Chapter SHINE. We are still adding and building but there is plenty to discover. Note there is an updated copy of the handbook, compete with links for easy access to more information.

Please feel free to contact me by phone or email if you have questions. or 719-659-0208.  I look forward to working with you this year.

Beginning Public Speaking Homework (BPS) ages 6-10yrs
        1.  Introducing yourself to 3 people using the 5 "S". The best way to do this is by practicing with an adult who can model (demonstrate) what this looks like. Each time you practice focus on a different "S" until you can do it confidently. Learning to shake hands and speaking clearly may take a little extra work.
            1.  Stand up - shows you respect them
            2. See their eyes - shows you care
            3. Smile - puts others at ease
            4. Shake hands (firmly but not too hard) - shows friendship
            5. Speak clearly and loudly "Hello, my name is _______.) - initiates conversation

        2. Review "What is public speaking". Beginning Public Speaking work pack (BPS) page 6

        3. Review the 3-second rule. BPS page 10

        4. Read "Dear Speaker" BPS page 11

Young Speakers Guild Homework (YSG) ages 11-18yrs
        1. Order, download and print YSG I if you do not have a copy. You will need your 2012 chapter member number so if you don't have it yet please contact me.

        2. Check out the new YSG Tracking Log at the appropriate link below. We will be discussing it next week during chapter time. Parents will be required to use this log also as they monitor their student's progress and check their YSG pages before bringing them to a chapter leader for final sign-off.

YSG I                     YSG II                   YSG III

        3. Introducing yourself to 3 people using the 5 "S" as in BPS #1 above.
