Family Cultures

To become an effective communicator we need to learn to speak culturally. This begins by learning to recognize that people are different from us because they do things differently, they have different interests, they have different experiences and think differently.

We typically think of cultural in relation to other countries or continents. But if we define culture as "the way we do what we do," we begin to see different cultures everywhere - beginning with the unique culture of family. We all do things differently and as we recognize that and learn to appreciate those differences, we come to value others for who they are, not by what they do.

We can notice family culture in the foods our family eats. We see this clearly during our potluck Chapter Dinners when families prepare their favorites to share. Below are recipes our chapter families have submitted to give us a glimpse of their unique cultures. Be adventurous and try something new this week. Then talk about some of the things you do and how they are different from others.
